Canada’s Top Streaming Picks for Week of Aug

Streaming in Canada this week brings a mix of new series premieres and fresh episodes across Apple TV+, Crave, Disney+, Netflix and Prime Video, with the most prominent arrival being the fourth season of the Apple TV+ original comedy Ted Lasso.

Apple TV+ rolls out season 4 of Ted Lasso

The new season debuts on Wednesday, August 5, with a weekly release schedule that keeps each episode arriving on Wednesdays. The storyline follows the titular coach as he takes charge of a second‑division women’s football club, expanding the show’s sports‑centric premise.

Created by a team that includes Jason Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt and Joe Kelly, the series returns familiar faces such as Sudeikis himself, Hannah Waddingham and Juno Temple. New additions feature Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack and Faye Marsay, adding fresh energy to the ensemble.

Apple TV+ charges $14.99 per month, though the service is also bundled in Apple One plans that start at $22.95 monthly. Subscribers can watch the series directly on the platform without any ad interruptions.

Other Canadian‑focused releases hit the slate

Crave introduces Anna Pigeon on Saturday, August 8 at 10 p.m. ET. The crime drama, based on Nevada Barr’s novels, follows an investigator moving through the wilderness of a national park while confronting personal demons. Developed by Ottawa’s Morwyn Brebner, the series stars Tracy Spiridakos, Ronnie Rowe and Melanie Scrofano, and was filmed in Calgary.

Also on Crave, the romantic comedy Mile End Kicks becomes available. The film, written and directed by Chandler Levack, tells the story of a Toronto writer who moves to Montreal to pen a biography of Alanis Morissette’s iconic album, only to become entangled with two musicians from the same band. Its cast includes Barbie Ferreira, Devon Bostwick, Stanley Simons, Juliette Gariépy and Jay Baruchel. The movie was shot in Montreal, adding a local flavor to the production.

Disney+ adds two notable titles on August 5. The horror‑drama The Shards adapts Bret Easton Ellis’s novel and blends the creator Ryan Murphy’s signature style with new talent such as Igba Rigney and Kaia Gerber. In the same launch window, the animated spin‑off Star Wars: Visions Presents — The Ninth Jedi debuts, featuring voice work from Kimiko Glenn, Andrew Kishino and other Canadian actors.

Streaming services are increasingly highlighting Canadian talent and settings, giving local audiences more relatable content while still delivering global hits.

For viewers, the variety means choosing between subscription tiers. Crave’s ad‑free premium sits at $22 monthly, with basic and standard plans at $9.99 and $14.99 respectively. Disney+ offers a standard ad‑supported option for $8.99 and a no‑ads plan at $15.99.
