Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 arrives in Canada

Samsung has opened its Canadian online store to a fresh set of foldable devices, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, its larger Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and the compact Galaxy Z Flip 8, alongside the new Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2.

Pricing and availability

The lineup arrives with a range of price points. The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra starts at $2,699.99 for the 256 GB model, climbs to $2,979.99 for 512 GB, and tops out at $3,549.99 for the 1 TB version, making it the most expensive phone currently listed in Canada. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 itself is offered in 256 GB and 512 GB configurations, though exact pricing was not disclosed in the release.

For the smaller flip, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is priced alongside its siblings, but the announcement focused on specifications rather than cost. Smartwatch prices start at $519.99 for the 40 mm Bluetooth version of the Galaxy Watch 9, with LTE models reaching $639.99. The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 carries a $949 price tag.

Technical specifications

All three smartphones share Samsung’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor and run Android 17 with One UI 9. The Z Flip 8 features a 6.9‑inch main AMOLED panel that supports 1‑120 Hz, plus a 4.1‑inch FlexWindow display running at 60/120 Hz. Its 12 GB of RAM is paired with either 256 GB or 512 GB of storage.

The standard Z Fold 8 offers a 7.6‑inch main screen and a 5.5‑inch cover screen, both delivering 120 Hz refresh rates. It ships with 12 GB of RAM, with an optional 16 GB variant, and storage choices of 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB. Battery capacity sits at 4,800 mAh.

The Ultra model expands the main display to 8.0 inches, maintaining a 120 Hz panel, while the cover screen grows to 6.5 inches. Both screens use Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology. Like its smaller sibling, the Ultra carries 12 GB of RAM, with a 16 GB option, and the same storage tiers. Its battery is the largest at 5,000 mAh.

Camera systems differ across the range. The Z Flip 8 retains a 50 MP wide sensor and a 12 MP ultra‑wide lens on the back, with a 10 MP front camera. The Z Fold 8 adds a second 50 MP ultra‑wide sensor, while the Ultra version upgrades to a 200 MP primary sensor, a 10 MP telephoto lens, and a 50 MP ultra‑wide unit. All three models use a 10 MP front camera on both the main and cover displays.

Physical dimensions reflect the foldable nature. The Z Flip 8 measures 166.9 × 75.4 × 6.1 mm when unfolded. The Z Fold 8’s unfolded size is 161.4 × 123.9 × 4.5 mm, folding to 81.9 × 123.9 × 9.7 mm. The Ultra version unfolds to 158.4 × 143.2 × 4.1 mm and folds to 158.4 × 72.8 × 8.9 mm. Weights range from 180 g for the Flip to 215 g for the Ultra.

These devices support both LTE and 5G networks and include side‑mounted fingerprint sensors, accelerometers, gyroscopes, proximity sensors, and compasses. They accept nano‑SIMs and eSIMs.

From a practical standpoint, the new foldables give Canadian consumers a choice between a pocket‑friendly flip and a larger, productivity‑oriented fold.
