Genesis GV90 adds luxury touches to flagship EV

The all-electric 2027 Genesis GV90 debuts as the brand’s flagship SUV, featuring coach-style doors in a package nearly as long as a Chevrolet Tahoe.

Size and power to match its ambitions

The GV90 measures 208 inches from bumper to bumper and nearly 80 inches wide—about six inches longer than a Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV. Its 123.5 kWh battery, the largest ever used by the Hyundai Motor Group, powers a dual-motor system producing 657 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. The estimated range reaches 310 miles per charge.

Electronic limited-slip differentials distribute torque between the front and rear axles. Active rear-wheel steering and air suspension improve handling and ride comfort.

Designers took inspiration from Korea’s traditional moon jar pottery, creating a rounded, understated shape that avoids the boxy look of many large SUVs. A subtle shoulder line runs along the body, while the front end features a diamond-pattern grille and a continuous LED strip called the Wing Face Micro Lens Array.

Two configurations are available: a standard four-door version and the Neolun variant. The latter includes rear-hinged coach doors, first shown in the 2024 Neolun concept. A dual-motion hinge lets the rear doors open separately, removing the need for B-pillars and providing unobstructed entry. Reinforced steel beams in the door frames ensure safety.

The Neolun’s front seats rotate 180 degrees with a button press, converting the cabin into a lounge during charging. Massaging seats and premium materials like leather, wool, cashmere, or stone trim add refinement. The Neolun First Edition, a four-seat executive model, includes a heated wood-veneer floor in the second row, evoking the warmth of a high-end bathroom.

Screens, sound, and safety firsts

A 25-inch head-up display projects speed, navigation, and alerts onto the windshield. The main interface is a 23.6-inch touchscreen that rises when the vehicle is parked, becoming an entertainment hub.

Bang & Olufsen’s 25-speaker system delivers immersive audio. Noise isolation comes from a partition between the cabin and trunk, along with roll-down window blinds for privacy.

Safety innovations include a roof airbag designed for rollovers, covering the panoramic sunroof to prevent ejection. This marks its first production use, though similar technology has existed in other forms. Another system triggers the stapedius reflex, an involuntary ear muscle contraction, to protect hearing during a crash—a feature previously seen in Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

Pricing details will arrive before the GV90’s U.S. launch in early 2027. The SUV positions the brand as a serious contender against established luxury automakers.
